Rules to plan around

Large accessory buildings have their own zoning limits on size, height, setbacks and lot coverage, and many HOAs require architectural review. Rules vary widely across the East Valley. In Apache Junction, for example, rural RS-GR lots have no size limit on accessory buildings, while RS-54 lots allow up to 2,000 square feet (or up to 5,000 square feet when the building meets the main home's setbacks) with a 20-foot height limit.
